It’s really like the magic story of Aladdin’s Cave, the story of how this Christmas handbag designed by Bela Gemu came about:
“I grew up on the ranch with a lot of cattle,” says Bela. “And I love fashion, and I see that calfskin and leather is an organic, natural fabric for us to use — it’s not plastic, like vegan leather, which comes from oil and contaminates the world — it’s something beautiful. And for me, as a meat-eater, it’s a useful, beautiful end product.
“So at my father’s ranch near San Miguel de Allende, there’s an office. And near the office, a dusty storage room with old ranch tools and other things to discover. My grandparents were a very elegant couple, but my father doesn’t care about these things. One thing I found was a lovely large leather art portfolio, and another was the shape and structure of this bag I’ve designed here!
The leather bag, made by an artisan in San Miguel, is available now for the holiday season at a price of $3,000 MXN. Call 415.100.6492 to order and for delivery within San Miguel.
